Everyone Is Gifted

Everyone in the church has a gift of some kind from God.  It is a gift that when exercised helps build strength in the body of believers as a whole.  There are some parts of Christian growth that can only be lived out as part of a group.  Those of us who would rather leave people behind and sit by ourselves in the corner will not grow in the ways God intended.  God intends for us to exercise a supernatural gift.  We are each special.  Maybe you should find out how God has gifted you.

1 Corinthians 12: 7-11

7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a] and to still another the interpretation of tongues.[b] 11All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

Questions

  1. For what purpose is each member gifted?
  2. Which is the last gift listed?
  3. Who determines the recipient of the gifts?
  4. Have you ever taken a test to determine your gifting?
  5. What gift do you bring to the church?  How can it be used?

    Hi Peter-
Been enjoying the posts. Thanks for including us.
I have wondered about this… Do you think that in this passage are all the gifts or part of the gifts- -because what about Romans 12:4 -8 ..I think my gift is in this passage-not necessarily in 1 Cor 12.. or could we have one from each?

Romans 12:4 Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his[b]faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

Just curious . God bless you:) larisa

The incomplete listing in each list of the gifts of the Holy Spirit would lead us to believe that the list is not exhaustive. In other words there may be gifts of the Holy Spirit not mentioned in scripture. The general principle is that God gives gifts to individuals that will help in the building up of other people. Thinking about myself, it could be said that I have the gift of ‘integration’. That is I see how passages apply to life quite easily and I see how life is affected by scripture. The gift of integration is not mentioned in scripture, but it is possible that the Holy Spirit has gifted me in this way.

Larisa, what do you think your gifting might be?

I like that idea. I jsut think my gift was more in romans 12 and not mentioned in 1 Cor 12- think my gift is helps- I think it is mostly the same same as serving, maybe a little different. I took the questionaire form your post and it said serving and then administration…

So, have you had opportunity to serve or administrate. I am guessing that you are not passive in seeking to serve since I met you at a camp where you were serving!
