On Tuesday November 20th at 7:00 p.m. I will be presenting ‘Getting the Most from Your Bible’ at the Barrington Campus of The Chapel. As well as being a professor at Moody Bible Institute, I am a Licensed Minister with The Chapel. First, it would be awesome to hear you present on this subject! Alas, Tuesday nights are booked…
Second, a quick question: Why is it that we use the phrases “your Bible” and “my Bible”? I can’t think of any other book or movie that we refer to in the same way. (I imagine saying things like “You really should be reading your *Mere Christianity*.” or “While I was reading my Plato today, I found out that…”)
Do we use your and my because of the way we personalize it with notes and highlights and filling it full of sermons and whatever else? Why do I have the strangest feeling that this isn’t a stop off of public transport….
